NASA - Scenario Based Methods for Verification of Authority and Autonomy

The research aims to contribute to analyze human/automation roles and responsibilities. This work will provide scenario-based methods for validation and verification of current day and NextGen concepts of operation and automated forms supporting these concepts of operation. By developing the validation and verification of potential designs that integrate the strengths of scenario-based testing and formal approaches for alerting and annunciation systems supporting ‘authority management,’ the work is able to examine specifically verification and validation of concepts of operation, role designation and human-automation interaction. In particular, by extending the WMC framework, the research will easily incorporate scenarios testing out the limits of autonomy, authority and responsibility.

This work is in collaboration with Dr. Ellen Bass at Drexel University, Dr. Matthew Bolton at SUNY Buffalo and Honeywell Advanced Research.
